My Female beta Sparkles has a protruding area on her belly, its relatively sudden and seems quite large to be an ovipositor? She is still mobile and comes to the front of the tank when I am around, although she seems to be hiding a little more than normal and has less of an appetite. I wanted to know what you guys thought, if she is ill I do not want to be slow to act. Thank you!

They don’t have ovipositors, perhaps it’s a prolapse?

– Tank size: 20 gal long
– Heater and filter: yes and yes
– Tank temp: 76
– Parameters: pH is about 8.0 using a test kit, I don’t have the rest currently.
– Ive had the tank and fish for a year.
– about 20% water change roughly once a month
– tank mates are 2 emerald cory catfish and 2 rabbit snails
– fed a pinch of beta flakes once a day
