Is this new behavior for her ? Any guess on age as she seems older/senior and they are very lethargic the last months of life. Not like death lethargic just chill in one spot until a yummy appears then goes back to that.

  2. Mine does this too! After looking into it some prefer to be close to the surface of the water when they’re chilling because it’s easier to take gulps of air. They’re able to breathe oxygen both out of the air and through their gills and being near the surface makes it easier for them to take “deep breaths”

She was a lot more lively back then now she doesn’t move a lot but if she does she moves from place to place every hour or so

  4. idk, but mine hangs out right at the surface most the time too, sleeping away. Its get easier to tell if they sleeping, which like 90% of time they are

I see your tank is planted, there’s a good chance you have hitchhiker micro-organisms that have been a food source for her (or babies of cohabitants if there is any). It’s normal for betta to chill near the surface, and even lay down on leaves! Depending on how long youve had her, there’s a chance she just needed time to settle before getting comfy enough to stay chill.

    Examples of possible hitchhikers!

    Ostracods
    Various little squiggly worms
    Copeopods
    Seed shrimp
    Scuds
    Leeches
    Planaria
    Snails
    Other random shrimp fry

Consider getting a plant for your betta to rest on, or a betta hammock! They do like to lounge at times near the surface to use their labyrinths for respiration.

The tank may also be too bare, and she might be feeling insecure and therefore finds comfort in the corner. More plants and maybe a hiding spot should do her well.
