their excuse makes no sense so what if the stand is bigger ? were you suppose to put a mat under it and you didn’t ?

The stand is a flat top? Is it purpose built for aquariums? With rimmed tanks all 4 corners need to be in contact with the stand or else you’ll get twisting and a crack like that. My guess would be that the stand was warped or deformed in some way, even a millimeter of gap is too much. The crack has nothing to do with a manufacturing defect of the glass or something, but on the installation of the tank, so they are refusing to warranty. It doesn’t have anything to do with the size of the stand though, only that is different from what the manufacturer sells. If you used the manufacturers stand then any defect in said stand would be the responsibility of the manufacturer.

  3. It’s a flat surface. As long as it is level and stable, there is no such thing as “too big”.

  4. Basically they are saying that the tank isn’t supported properly. The centre of the table is higher than the sides. You can tell by shape of the crack .

  5. What the fuck? Is the video posted here the one you sent them? If so, you literally cannot see the support structure of the stand.

My stand is the exact size of my tank and the stand itself has an overhang of about an inch. If your overhang is 1/4 plywood, that’s one thing (also depends on where the weight bearing points are) but if it’s 2×4 like most tank stands, no self respecting engineer would tell you that an inch makes that much of a difference, especially in the short term.

They’re trying to rip you off.

  6. Do a charge back if they won’t honor the warranty. The supports don’t have to be under the edges if the surface that the tank sits on is stable and doesn’t flex

  7. Bad stands crack tanks all the time. Most “mysterious” tank explosions are just bad stands. But your video doesn’t show the stand so I can’t make an informed statement. Get shots from below, from the side, from one end and from the front. If the weight of the tank is bending the surface trampoline-style then, yeah, it’s a bad stand and it did put too much pressure on the glass. If the stand has absolutely no flex, then probably not. There could have also been pressure on the front glass from the bottom. From now on, you can support tanks by just the corners, very level, and this won’t happen again. I always put poster board or hard foam under all 4 corners of all my tanks so that the long lower edges of the tank don’t touch the stand.

  8. This is actually fairly common, as in it’s common to break a tank by putting it on an oversized stand ( i don’t think the situation happens often). There are different ways to support a tank based on the material and whether it has a rim or not.

For a rimmed tank like yours if the 4 corners aren’t all secured the tank can twist and crack the glass.

Why arent you showing the stand properly in the video? Do you actually want help or just attention? lol

  10. Only time I’ve seen a tank crack like this was from being unlevel. Specifically a minor drop in the concrete. Not a slant.
