Back in November I bought 7 shrimp from a local aquarium and 6 were dark blue but one was clear.

I left it as I was told the shrimp would get its colour later but it never has

Its quite a lot bigger than the rest and since November I’ve had 2 eggnant shrimp, but all the babies have since died as have other shrimp

I’ve only got 3 blues (from babies) and this stranger left.

The water parameters etc are fine, but the shrimp don’t seem to like eating the wafers or bug bites I give them.

I’m worried this massive clear shrimp is eating my blues. Am I right to be suspicious or should I stop being so shrimpist?

  1. I don’t know what he is, but I can tell you he’s not eating your other shrimp.

  2. The clear dude is probably just reverted to wild type. He is not the one eating Your other shrimp (but shrimps will eat corpses of their mates If they die for other reasons). My shrimp rarely touch any food in the tank – they are all about the biofilm and such. So the question is – does the tank have enough biofilm to sustain them? Also, do You have anything else (fish or other creatures) in there with them?

  3. The females can get to a decent size. They don’t eat eachother, they mix and you end up with mostly wildcolor in the end.

I’ve read the clear (or faded) shrimp could have bacterial infection? Or a ghost shrimp slipped in your order

His name is Theodore. Met him once at a bar super nice guy.

But for real though, Wild-type Neocaridina (cherry shrimp ancestor). I got a few in my tank too.
