I was out fishing and getting skunked Thursday when 2 guys helped me out. They gave me 6 flies- 3 caddis nymphs and 3 of these black flies. I cannot find any caddis patterns that match this online but wow did it crush trout. Same w this black one, any idea what this fly is called? I tore off all of them and now I need more ! I guess I can see why guys get into tying their own, bc now I want to fill a box w these for my fav creek hahaha

just looks like a quill body with bronze wire wraps pheasant tail and a peacock collar.

  2. It’s essentially a simplified beadhead pheasant tail (no wing case or legs). I’d call it a pheasant tail frenchie. Looks like:

    – Gold bead
    – pheasant tail tail
    – Pheasant tail or quill body
    – Copper rib
    – Peacock herl thorax

This is how I tie most of my PT nymphs. Saves time and still catches fish.
