All I ever did was deep water fishing in New England a few times as a kid where the crew would constantly come over, unhook the sand shark, and put a new lure on allowing me to rinse/repeat…with an occasional cod thrown in.
We live in New England right now with stocked ponds and moving to Arizona in a few months with more stocked ponds. My 8 year old has said he wants to try fishing and that means the 5yo will want to tag along.
I’ve read some of the posts here and am completely lost, except I need to watch some videos on how to tie the lures and bring a first aid kid. I don’t intend to fish myself for the first few times as I’ll focus on their experience. I also will have them in the backyard to practice casting before we go to a pond.
I’m thinking one of these for each of them:

The Minecraft one is just because my 8yo loves Minecraft -they look to be roughly the same.
If these rods and reels are ok to begin with, what else do I need? Bobbers, lures, more monofilament, pliers…I just don’t know enough to be dangerous yet so I’m asking here.

Those rods are good if you want to entertain a kid that’s too young to actually fish.
I use spincast combos for my kids but get an adult version that they can still use.
My son has a Lew’s “Crappie Thunder” combo and it’s a solid set for $50. My daughter has a pink profishiency combo, which isn’t as good, but isn’t the worst reel I’ve used.
