Father has been a regular at the bighorn for decades. Cottonwood camp, built his own Tatman, taught me to cast there. Knows it like back of his hand. But it’s not the fishery it was with constant cold water cycles. We‘re nearing teaching my kids and looking for easy floats with potential for a decent dry, as he finds a new pilgrimage location.

Whats your alt. river suggestion for a long standing bighorn aficionado?

The North Platte is similar in many ways, but the wading experience is difficult due to the stream access laws in Wyoming. For easy to float rivers, the Bighorn is hard to beat. The Green is awesome, but not necessarily an easy float. Maybe the San Juan down in New Mexico? Water conditions will be tough this year.

The more I think about it, the Missouri up near Craig, Montana might be somewhere to check out. I’m not sure I would consider it better than the ‘Horn, but it can be wonderful at times.
