I just got into betta fish about a week ago or so now. I know it’s not the best looking tank, but I do need to know if this ideal. I only have my betta (Ryu-San) and my two mystery snails (yin and yang). The two snails were put in about two days ago, they were super active at first but then the next day they seemed to stay hidden and have not moved since. I just want to if this is an ideal living condition for all three. The rocks on the drift wood are temporary and I know the bed for the betta isn’t perfect it will be getting changed soon!

Hey! A couple quick questions that will help figure this out:
* Have you tested your water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate)?
* How big is the tank?
* Was the tank cycled before adding them?
Mystery snails produce a *lot* of waste, so even one in a smaller tank can raise ammonia pretty quickly—two can definitely push it if the tank isn’t fully cycled yet. Since they were active at first and then suddenly started hiding, that can be a sign something in the water changed (most commonly ammonia or nitrite).
If the tank wasn’t cycled beforehand, there’s a good chance ammonia or nitrite is building up, which can be harmful to both the betta and the snails. I’d definitely recommend testing the water if you can, and doing a partial water change just to be safe.
The setup itself sounds fine as a start (and it’s great you’re planning improvements!), but the main concern right now is just making sure the water quality is stable.
If you havent looked into it, please learn about the nitrogen cycle!
