What’s stopping me from adding pinch on/split shot weights to an EWG hook for a fraction of the cost of a keel weighted hook?

Absolutely nothing, it will work fine 90% of the time. Only issue would be if fishing in heavy weeds, the pre-made ones are smoother and will hang up less.

Nothing, a lot of the Japanese people I follow do this, they also add one on to their Wacky hooks.

I have found a little super glue helps keep them in place FYI
