Betta Fish: Meet Fin Diesel

We bought a starter tank today, put in three live plants with aqua soil and pre-conditioned water. Fin Diesel is a Rose Petal betta. We haven’t had a betta in ages, so we’re pretty much ‘new’ to them again. Any constructive input is gladly welcomed! Will post a full tank pic in comments. (The yellowish stuff on the soil is from root tabs, they turned that color. Is that normal???)
