So this rod was given to me by a friend whose father recently passed away. It clearly says The Winston Rod / San Francisco on it, but no other identifying marks or numbers. 80" assembled. It has rollers for guides, not eyelets. I can't find anything that looks like it via google.

From what little I can find online, it sounds like it was either a small batch or custom-made casting rod. I went to the Winston web page and emailed them some pictures, but in response it's clear the guy is just guessing, but he thinks it came from the 50s or '60s. Casting rod. Possibly fiberglass

Ignore the little rod on the left in the picture.

Thanks for any info.

  1. This is a trolling rod for pelagics like tuna or mahi mahi.
The metal section would be mounted to either that straight rod butt you have in the picture or a bent butt designed to fit into different styles of rod holder.

What’s the length? It’s got a gimbal butt, and roller guides. Trolling application?

It’s definitely a trolling casting rod. All the Winston stuff im seeing though is fly fishing, even the vintage stuff. Not very helpful. I’ll keep looking

I have no idea but those rollers are gorgeous. Beautiful vintage fishing equipment

Is this the grandfather of the surface iron casting rod? That thing is really cool.
