Am I stupid, or is there some way to get these out without them being tangled to no end?

Did you try? The butt section is wrapped around the loop you see here multiple times to prevent it from tangling. All you have to do is remove one of these loops, then unwind the butt section until it unravels.
I’ve never used this brand before so it’s possible they’re poorly packaged, but they look the exact same as other leaders I’ve bought.

So I make my own leaders because I’m a sadist. But the easiest way is to put the ring around 3 or 4 fingers and spread your fingers for slight tension, and from the butt section slowly unwind it.

The butt section or the thicker section is wrapped around generally about 4 times. Unwrap the butt section, I usually put two fingers inside the loop and apply pressure outward so everything stays tight as I unwrap. Make sure you have all the wraps undone and you should be able to pull it out straight.
Edit: those leaders are terrible, spend a little more money for Rio or Umpqua

Unwrap the loop end (3-5x, depending on where you start in the coil and what brand it is) and as you unwrap it, it will all come loose. Just be gentle and don’t force it.

Take it out and stretch it around three fingers. Then untwist the end that has the perfection loop.
