I saw a dead German Shepherd on the side of the road this morning, later this evening I see a post about a lost German Shepherd from near where I had seen the dead one this morning so I drove out to where I last saw it to hopefully give them closure if it was their dog or give them hope if it wasn’t. but instead of the dead dog that I saw earlier today, I found this big large pile of fish on the side of the road. I was wondering if game wardens would make someone pile all their dead fish on the side of I 40 if it’s too many/out of season/wrong sizes, I’m in Burke County North Carolina if that helps narrow down the seasons or do I need to contact him about a possible poaching situation?

  1. THis si likely just assholes being assholes. Some idiots do this to what they view as “junk fish.”

Mostly all carp but looks to be some gar mixed in. Extremely disrespectful practice throwing fish on shore and gives all anglers a bad name.

Uh, that’s definitely not normal. If someone is caught with fish they shouldn’t have it is normally confiscated or sometimes dumped in the waterway if they are caught at the fishery. I believe most states also have laws about how you can dispose of wildlife parts, and this would break those laws too. I would look up whatever region of your state wildlife agency you are in and call the office to report this, especially since you saw a dead dog as well.

Maybe the German shepherd found the pile of fish and gorged on them and choked or got sick??

Its people doing a good thing by removing the destructive species and then doing a TERRIBLE thing of just leaving them piled up somewhere and not disposing of them correctly

  6. Call fish and wildlife and report it. Regardless of if they are rough fish or not, there are wanton waste laws in some states, and proper disposal laws.

  7. Back in a day you were told to do this with carp, but we’ve sort of lost that war

Clearly someone bow fishing and dumped them there……you can see the arrow holes in some….. very bad sportsmanship …. 99% of fisherman and bowfisherman would never do that

Probably bow fishermen, they’re kinda infamous for killing a crap ton of fish and creating a mess and wasting everything.

Invasive carp are about the only thing that’s acceptable to treat this way imo.

Unfortunately, likely bow fishermen. They shoot everything that’s considered a “rough fish” by the state departments. Including native species like buffalo, gar, suckers, bowfin, etc. Then they dump them wherever they can. They say it’s to control invasive carp, but too often I see more native fish than invasive. Plus, they aren’t effecting the carp population.
