I fished today for the first time. I caught eight small fish, all like under two pounds. Looking for some tips on possibly catching some larger fish. I’m located in kentucky. I used a random rod my friends dad had and we used some smaller hooks with live worms. I’m interested in purchasing my own rod but i’m unemployed so recommendations for the best rod I can get for the lowest price would be great.

Look for a cheap combo id say 5’6″ medium action rod and a matching spinning reel, then get what im pretty sure is eagle claw brand but im not sure a pre-made bass tackle box i did that when i started fishing and ive caught some nice fish, i got all of that at my local Walmart

    Love the enthusiasm.

You can get an ugly stick combo pretty cheap and great for a beginner being almost invincible.

Nice fish! Congratulations. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself and want to go back!

An UglyStik combo from Walmart is a great place to start. I usually give people whom I introduce to fishing a 6’6″ Medium spinning combo. Not a lot of money when you’re employed . The rod is freaking indestructible . The reel can be upgraded

The cheapest you can get at Walmart that doesn’t have mostly chrome plated plastic on the reel will work for getting started.

  5. Walmart has some cheap combos that catch fish. I’d also check Facebook marketplace. People give away rods and reels all the time.

Fishing poles and equipment are all over Facebook marketplace for dirt cheap. Try there first, and your local buy nothing group.
