I guess yall regularly use such light line across the ocean but here in America I get laughed at for using 12lb line they say it’s not enough. My questions then are, what are your biggest fish on lightest line? And is it ethical to fish for river carp with 6lb knowing a snag could snap em if they pull under cover or something?

    sorry if this comment is a bit off-topic. We’re currently developing a movable real-time underwater fish finder that can move freely on the water surface. Would you be interested?
    If yes, I can provide prototype unit for trial use.

    Depends on how big they are, if you’re fishing for small ones then I don’t see the problem. I would still like something to eat the snags (aka leader) but it’s still fine. My general guideline is:
    Biggest fish possible—> line strength (minimum)
    10kg—-> 12lb line
    20kg —-> 18lb
    30kg—-> 20lb
    40+—-> just use strong braid pls

  3. I use 6lb for river carp all the time, but it’s relatively snag free, and I use a very long, light rod.

    Either way, thats a fine carp on light line, and if it’s a fish you remember and feels special to you, that’s all that really matters at the end of the day!
