Don’t do it. Rasboras can be nippy and bettas are vulnerable to it. And there’s a risk of the betta being aggressive towards the rasboras as well. It works for some people, but I don’t think it’s worth the risk.

Edit: I was wrong about chili rasboras being nippy, but I still don’t think you should do it based on tank size and betta aggression.

  2. A 6.8 gallon tank should only house one betta. If you want any tank mates you’re going to need at least a 20 gallon long, minimum. Chili rasboras do much better in black water setups anyways.

  3. I put a cory catfish with my betta- he was totally fine!!! He was so good that i upgraded yo a 15 gallon and added 3 more Cory catfish, now he tries to hang out with the Cory’s all the time LOL he literally wants to be a Cory hahahahah
You have to understand your bettas temperament- if you plan on tank mates- then i would put in the Cory’s first, then add the betta- or all together.
There are a lot of opinions on tank mates- i personally did as i wanted- but was prepared for a catastrophe, so make sure you do have a back up plan if it does not work out

  4. I have a 10 gal with strawberry rasboras (10 of them) and a young female betta. There has been no fighting or nipping issues at all. It’s actually my favorite of my 4 tanks. The little boras are so cute and zippy, and the betta is still young and curious, always moving around.

  5. I know it works for other people, but I put a betta in my 20 gal and he started hunting the chilis in about 2 minutes

  6. Not in a 6g! That’s barely above the bare minimum tank size for a betta alone. I generally dont recommend communities with bettas in anything under 15g.

I wouldn’t risk it personally since the betta might eat them, and as the others say it’s too small for a betta fish community tank

If the betta gets aggressive there won’t be a lot of room for the to escape

No. Not in a 6.8. But for something like a 20gal, depends on the fish for sure. My Henry has a crooked tail, super sweet fish. He has had some tank mates (loaches mainly) in his 20gal and he never bothers them and they never bother him. But my girl Yeti wouldn’t be happy with that at all, not even in a 20gal. I would say… do not do this just get the betta and make it beautiful for it. You don’t need both in the same tank. Get a separate tank for the chili rasboras.

  9. I know chili rasboras are small but they are very active shoaling fish. Recommended minimum is at least 10 in at least a 10g.

If the betta is freindly, you can have shrimp, snails, scuds, and have a nice scape for them. But that’s about it, an avrage or proper community size tank is a 10-20 gal tank. Bigger is better if you want more stocking options, hope this helps

if you ever upgrade to a 20 gallon and want a betta with rasboras i recommend harlequin rasboras. they’re bigger and still just as pretty as chili. heavily depends on the bettas personality though, i have 10 with my male and the only thing he does is try to steal food. make sure the tank is heavily planted and has floaters as rasboras will get stressed without it. a 7 gallon should be long fin betta only, maybe some shrimp, i wouldn’t even do a mystery snail as they’re poop machines. ramshorns are pretty and stay small but if you don’t watch how much you feed they’ll overpopulate 🙂

  12. ur gonna want or heavy floater plant coverage for that….cant tell from pic but also a leveling mat is a must for rimless tanks
