My buddy caught this in the white river near Indianapolis. I thought it was a pumpkinseed but it doesn’t have the red mark on the ear tab.

Northern Sunfish .
Wider opercular flap , angled, and white boarder. OP is in range of Northern Sunfish and that’s exactly what it is. That’s also why it looks closer to a longear then a pumpkinseed

It’s a Pumpkinseed – not all of them have the red spot on the gill-plate extension.
