Just wanted to share my life jacket I made for a Rescued Oranda over the past weekend. Supposedly the vet punctured the swim bladder and poor guy was sitting sideways. None of the conventional life jackets on Google worked due to his massive brain (when) but I’m just proud of my 2 hours of engineering I tried for this guy.
No pressure on any vital parts. Gills, mouth, and fins are unrestricted. He moves sometimes but usually just in place, but he literally just chills in place I’m just assuming he’s recovering from the puncture.
Side question, what are the chances this guy survives a punctured swim bladder? I’m hoping it’s as simple as that his history is unknown due to the guy giving it up due to having a pond set up. Any tips are appreciated!

Just know he will likely develop sores from his “life jacket”
Dungeon Crawler Carl Fans would love this…
If I was a fish, had my swim bladder punctured by a vet (why was it getting surgery anyway), and I had to float around with this contraption on my head, I’d rather die
He needs to be euthanized
I LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE MAKE THESE. All caps love it. 🐟🩵
People need to stop breeding fish like this, it’s not right.
What a great build……that fish is lucky to have someone who cares and wants to help him. Just watch for brain swelling or sores so you can take him out of it before it’s too late.
Here are some tips I found:
^^Care for “No Swim Bladder” Goldfish:
Reduce Water Depth: In a hospital tank, lower the water level so the fish can easily reach the surface to breathe, reducing exertion.
Dietary Changes: Switch to sinking pellets or gel food to prevent them from gulping air at the surface, which exacerbates buoyancy issues.
Hand Feeding: If the fish cannot reach food, you may need to hand-feed them, such as placing food directly in front of them with tweezers.
Manage Infections: If the issue is a bacterial infection, antibiotic treatments can help.
Avoid “Wheelchairs”: While some use external floats, these often rub against the skin, leading to infections and are generally not recommended long-term.
I thought bro had a nasal cannula on.
I honestly don’t blame you for trying, wishing you best luck buddy
