Aquariums: I built a DIY internal side sump for my 40cm tank.

I drilled a hole in the glass divider to create a gravity-fed overflow. Water flows from the main display into the sump area through this cutout. In the final chamber of the sump, there’s a return pump that pushes the filtered water back into the main tank.
