Went to pick up a leaf blower on marketplace, started talking to the guy and he sold me all this for $50 (plus a vest). Anyone know what it’s worth? Very grateful!

  1. A pflueger medalist, old daiwa, unknown 5wt, old monofilament and plastic flyboxes?

    Apparently $50.

  2. You did Ok. The Pflueger Medalist reel is the most noticeable item of value – old nylon is a crapshoot tbh – heat cycles and UV radiation are relentless killers of mono. May be Ok tho. I’ve not seen a 7.5x leader in a while. The fly boxes and fly patch are reusable – but the flies look mostly knackered IMO. Get a 5wt floating line and sting it up and start fishing!

Might be able to get $50 for the reels and rod. Maybe. Rest of it old line and flies that probably aren’t any good

The Browning Silaflex rod could be fun. I think that’s a decent blue-collar level fiberglass rod. The Medalist reel could be the best part. Flies look eh, low level quality, but i’d try them out. i would not use the leader material, probably too old and degraded from UV light.

Hey man if you catch fish with it it’s worth that. $50 for a full outfit and some flies isn’t terrible. Might want some new fly line and leader if it’s not in terrible shape. Get out there and catch some dude!

  6. I’d forgotten about Nylorfi tippet. That was a staple on my 1980s fishing vest.

  7. You got a backup rod and reel for emergencies on trips or to leave in the vehicle as a beater.

  8. If it’s your first fly rod and gets you out in nature it’s priceless. There’s nothing better than being in the river fishing as the sun goes down.
