TLDR: is 10lb braid okay to spool onto a micro spincast?
Hello all. Ive actually been fishing for like 10+ years i just still suck ass so that’s why I’m here. Wanted to pop in and ask if braided line is okay for a micro spin cast set up? Snagged a really nice ultralight combo at a flea market the other day. Ive been braid loyal for the past few years as its much less of a headache and Ive never once got flouro or mono to spool right.
So anyways I said fuck it it’s spin cast it should be easy to spool, google said braided wasnt recommend (had a feeling this was wrong) so I went straight to 10lb flouro. The reel didnt seem to like that, it retrieves like shit and the line is also already is winding up on itself. Im wondering if some 10lb braid would work well on the setup? Just curious what others have experienced and also looking for any tips or tricks I may be missing when it comes to spooling a spincast. Posting my PB bluegill just so theres a fun photo attached. Photo redacted as needed to maintain privacy.

Nope braid wont work on that itll slip. Just get a spinning reel. Nice 2/3s of a fish im sure the other 1/3 is nice too.
So… two-part answer. Straight fluoro is a pain to work with, it tends to unspool constantly as you’ve seen. Super-light braid isn’t as bad, but it’s very wispy and will catch on things. Both can be trouble on a spincast; I would stick with regular monofilament on that.
The second part is that, no judgment, but there’s a reason that spincast is marketed towards kids and rank amateurs… they’re easy but honestly kinda suck. They don’t cast well, don’t hold much line, are usually cheaply made, and tangle and snag constantly in ways that force you to pull off the whole cover to get at it. You will be much, much, much better served by putting on an inexpensive spinning reel. A Shimano Sienna reel is like 35 bucks and a HUGE quality of life upgrade. You will be comfortable using it by the end of the first day out.
