ETA I will not be fishing Pyramid, I should have clarified, I live in WA state so I’ll be heading to Lenore

Just discovered this species exists and now I’m obsessed with landing my very own.

I’m fortunate that I live somewhere within road trip distance (6hrs) to these beautiful fish.

Problem is I’ve never fished for cutthroats of any kind, is it similar to fishing for wild rainbows or California Golden’s?

No bait of any kind allowed in these areas, so please keep that in mind.

Any advice appreciated, I have a rig I can troll with and will be able to easily get away from shore if that helps my chances

  1. In my own personal experience it’s the most boring type of fishing there is. Pyramid lake is 30 minutes away from my house and all you do is be at the water one hour before sunrise looking at a strike indicator for 12 hours doing absolutely nothing just standing on a ladder, but to be honest I haven’t caught a big one yet so I’m salty about it.
I use a 12” 8wt rod and any store around here sells pyramid specific flys.

  2. If you’re going to pyramid LCT I had good success with spoons (10g-28g kastmasters gold/silver depending on conditions or sierra spoons) also had success fishing balanced leech under indicator. In creeks/streams they’re similar to catching wild rainbows imo

  3. Was just up there last weekend. Bite is slow but started turning on Saturday. Had 1 bobber down and it was a good one.
Strategy will depend on when you go. Feel free to reach out with specific questions

  4. If you go very late season when they move back deep, then trolling will be better. But if you go in next few weeks prob no need for all of that
