I’m loving the Ned rig. (For the most part) I have caught some decent fish so far, including this nice white bass. However I have also lost twice as many jig heads on snags. I just recently switched to a weedless style jig head, and got another snag today. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just part of the territory with Ned rigs?

Thanks in advance!

In a river? I think can be normal depending on the bottom. You might have more effective options though I’m not sure what you’re hanging on.

You can actually rig a ned rig weedless sorta like you would a Texas rig. I read an article or saw a short vid once and saw a demonstration. Not much of a hook gap tho, so take that for what it’s worth. And to answer your last question, it’s part of the territory with many of the baits you throw with hooks, including “weedless” ones. Just the way it is 😅

Yes it’s unavoidable if you’re dragging a bait along the bottom.

I pay alot of attention to bottom composition, and I’ll typically only throw neds on certain types of rocks. I get hung up a lot less often on rounder smooth rocks or gravelly type surfaces. But if the rocks are too jagged or snaggy, I’ll just throw something different.

  4. Zman makes ewg Ned rigs. Was a game changer for me personally. They even make these things called finesse bulletz I use for trd baits. Highly recommend when Ned rigging.

I recently started using the Ned heads with an EWG hook and it doesn’t get snagged nearly as often.

What weight are you using? A true ned rig isn’t really meant to be dragged on the bottom, my starting point is a 1/16 jighead with a smaller hook than most “Ned rigs” are marketed with.
