Been fly fishing for like 3 weeks now this is my biggest trout ever by far! I have one question about line though, is the first like 3-4 feet of floating line supposed to sink? I have a super cheap cortland combo so I’m assuming this is just trash line

Nice fish, almost looks like it could be a splake. Was the tail forked at all?
It’s normal for your floating line to sink if you’ve got split shot or a big streamer on. Upgrading your line makes a big difference in the overall experience tho – definitely worth doing when you’re ready.
Nice fish. No, if it’s a true floating line it should not sink. Is there a sink tip attached? If not, look at the line for any cracks/fraying, if so it’s toast. If not, you can try cleaning it with dish soap or fly line cleaner. If that doesn’t solve it, it’s probably micro tears where the water it seeping in and you will need a new line. Tight lines!
