What do i do now?…
How do I not feel guilt for the fact that i have been putting off cleaning the tank for a week now?
Feeling like it's because of me that this happened?
Thinking i could have done more?
For context:
I had this fish for about half a year. I never planned on having a fish, but i couldn't stand looking at him when at my mothers home. She got him from a friend who had it for his son, but i guess the son didn't want it anymore. He was i a bowl, with pebbles at the bottom about 1cm tall, a seashell from somewhere and a random rock, and that's it. He was always so depressed looking when we visited. He was black looking, just floating in the middle, i always thought he died when i saw him. So i bought everything for the tank, set it up, and asked my mom if i can take it, she let me do it. And i fell in love with him and i think he loved me… 🙁
But yesterday as i was finally gonna go clean the tank, i saw him… And i dont even know when it happened because i was next to him the whole time.. he was just here. What do i even do now? What do i do with the plants? What do i do with everything else? It would hurt too much to run everything without him in there, but it would also hurt to buy a new fish.? Do i move the tank because it hurt looking at it? Im so scrambled and lost…
I dont know what to do now… i broke down yesterday… we are gonna bury him today.
(P.s. he is alive in that photo just to be clear i like this picture he looks goofy)
Rest rest easy my lovely boy, Fisherson❤️

The odds of you putting off cleaning the tank being the cause of its death are very low. Bettas are tough. Might have just been its time, fish don’t live forever. They can also just die for no apparent reason, it’s unfortunately part of the hobby. Take pride knowing that for a year and a half you gave it a much better life than living in that bowl.
Can’t tell you what to do next. That’s for you to decide. However, from that one picture you clearly dedicated the time to make your tank look good. Let it sit empty for a while, buy something like shrimp or snails, and then when you’re ready go look for another fish. It’s not meant to replace yours, just to provide you with a new friend.
