When I got him he was flaring and swimming around his tub so aggressively, here he is in a 20 gallon high. I know it’s not planted and mostly just has rooted areas but it is a work in progress. Looking to make a small scale community tank (rasboras, neocardina) but that’s a future project

  1. There is too much water flow. He’s getting trashed around by the current. He may start nipping his fins if you don’t fix it for him.

  2. 1. Way too much current!!
2.Plants plants plants – the poor guy has no place to hide, this is stressing him out
    out
    3. Hope you know that bettas should be kept alone. They don’t like other fish, they may eat them or their own fins will get eaten (fin nipping) by the other fish. I recommend buying a second tank- there you can keep whatever fish you want, but please let your betta live in peace (=alone)

I think u should add pennywort, java moss(they grow slow in low light), pellia moss and duckweed. If u dont mind checking to see if their leaves are wet, I think u should get salvinia and frogbit too. Maybe try getting one or two hidey holesand some driftwood. Driftwood releases tannins. Bettas love tannins cuz thats how their water environment is in the wild. Driftwood doesnt release too much tannins so its good for them

  4. You’re on to a good start! Like the other comments said, the flow is too strong for little pal but that’s an easy fix. I see you mentioned you’re working on adding plants, if it’s a money thing you can get a 3 pack of very healthy [Amazon sword](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07D1Y87T9?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title) on amazon for $12. I added the link.

Hornwort is great too for a floating plant, my bettas love to rest in it. I order mine [here](https://ebay.us/m/oEPHuF). This seller always has super healthy bundles.
