Hi! I was wondering if I could get some help with my betta? I think she has swim bladder, i have a 78 degree preset heater, but the gage is reading 75.5 so I ordered a new heater. I tried checking her water but I think this pack of tetra strips is bad, so I ordered the API brand and it’ll be delivered tomorrow. Idk what to do, she’s struggling to get to the top and I’m worried about her. She’s just resting everywhere and hardly swimming. (I have pictures of the test strips but idk how to add them)

It’s hard to really determine the cause of swim bladder without the API master kit. It could be water quality or something as simple as overfeeding.

I would recommend moving your betta into a hospital tank. Whenever I make a hospital tank, I fill a container with 30 oz of water, add extra tannins, and put in an airstone plus a small heater. The lower water level makes it easier for your betta to reach the surface to breath.

Also, fast your betta fish for a few days and see if that helps. For now I would put it in a hospital tank until the kit arrives just so they don’t have to overexert themselves.

Your fish and tank are absolutely beautiful (:

  2. Well, you’ve clearly been reading the sub.

It could be your cycle has not completed but that’s an assumption based on incomplete information because you didn’t mention how long you’ve had the tank/fish.

  3. My Betta suffered from something similar as well, and what helped was getting the water parameters correct by diluting with distilled water (still making sure everything was at desirable levels like Ph, Alkalinity, Hardness, No Ammonia) and adding Aquarium Salt (this was key, also remember to dilute the salt first before pouring in). I also fasted him for three days, fed him daphnia treat in case it was constipation, and made sure the aquarium was between 78-80° and filtering properly. He was healed within two weeks

  4. Get the API master kit, not the strips. The strips don’t work all that well. Most local pet stores should carry it.
