I did some research and checked to see if there could be any signs or evidence if the dorsal was nipped or was ripped off during her shipping process but after closer inspection, the entire back seems to be smooth so it's highly likely it could be a birth defect. I'm pretty surprised since it's rare to find any bettas that have a sort of defect like this. She is now currently in a 3.5 gallon tank and my little brother decided to even took a look and now wants to name her Nemo but I'm now curious to know what anyone here in the hobby thinks in case I may be wrong or misinformed.

No idea. I wonder if it’ll grow in!
I know it happens with Goldfish. They breed them that way on purpose; look at Ranchu goldfish.
It doesn’t seem to affect their quality of life in an aquarium environment. But in general the way fish and many pets get bred makes me uncomfortable.
Very interesting!
Ranchu betta hehe
She’s nakey
Omg I’ve never seen this before

Name her Torpedo nicknamed Tori 😆
