I have about 7 translucent shrimp in my tank. At first he followed them around when he saw them but he's never been aggressive towards them. Eventually he lost his interest but I think it's maybe because he can't see them that well?

I'd like to get cherry shrimp, blue shrimp or golden ones. Maybe another 7 of them? But I'm afraid due to their vibrant colour my Betta might hunt them.

I have about two handfuls of moss in my tank. One handful on the side and one handful in-between tall stem plants in the back. My tank is also heavily planted with a few hiding spots.

My aquarium is 60l,

Temp is 24/25C

1 male Betta fish, 5 Cory's, 7 nano shrimp

I have a bit of carpet plants.

Active soil as substrate

You will need plenty of hiding spots and a big tank, just in case the betta stumbles upon them one day and decides he wants a taste. My betta lives with a colourless guppy. The guppy was born in a tank with five spotted puffers at the shop. I also had a fire red shrimp and a blue rili shrimp in the tank, and I thought they had died, but they were just hanging around at the back. However, when I looked for them again a few months later, they were gone. I’m not sure where they disappeared to, but I’m fairly sure they ended up in the betta’s stomach. He loves the back of the tank and is always exploring. Oh yeah, my betta is a white dumbo called Valentino Falcone.

Val would also follow the guppy around. He would flare and chase it, but then suddenly stop and go back to minding his own business. The guppy could even swim past him without him making a move.

Your tank setup is great, and your betta seems to tolerate his companions but there’s no guarantee he won’t snap suddenly. But if you are really invested in it, why not? You just need a lot of hiding spaces. The hiding spaces you provided are perfect, but I don’t think it would be enough.

As someone who had trouble with introducing shrimp to my betta tanks when I was newer— I’d recommend getting wild types… or if you DO want to get the colorful cherries, I’d recommend getting a smaller tank to breed them in so that your colony can recover if he decides to go crazy.

I think the real issue isn’t that they’re shrimp, it’s that they’re flashy, and the darting + the bright colors makes bettas’ hunting instincts kick in. My betta spent a couple weeks chasing them, but now he MOSTLY leaves them be. I have still found some half munched shrimp, tho lol

Make sure you have plenty of hiding spots and plants, and you get stuff that can cut off line of sight in the tank, itll make it easier for shrimp to survive.
