Hello first time adding mono line to my spool and there seems to be little tension. When I cast it the line often gets all tangled. The line also slips off when I flip the bale up. I’ve tried soaking it in hot water and I think that helped a little but the problem still remains.

  1. Commenting because I have this issue when I cast my line looks like yours

  2. The line you get with rod and reel combos is real bottom of the barrel stuff. Cut it off and respool it. Either DIY or ask a tackle shop to do it.

  3. If you’re casting tangles, you’ve either spooled it without sufficient tension, reeled it without sufficient tension, or your line has memory and you need to respool with new line (consider braid to avoid this entirely).

That first pic with the wavy line sure looks like line memory to me. You may also have spooled it backwards (spooled against the memory).

Make sure drag cap is screwed on tight. If the line is mushy around the spool, your going to have to put that line on a 2liter soda bottle and respool back on tighter.

What # test do you have on? Heavier line may be harder to manage when new.

Cast that sucker as far as you can and keep tension on it while reeling in.

If this is the line the combo came with, get rid of it. Pre spooled line is always garbage. Buy some new mono and make sure you spool it correctly, watch a video or two its easy.
