I bought this yesterday and spent 2 hours today in my yard untangled birdnests. I can't figure out how to stop it. Any tips would be very much appreciated. I spooled it with 30lb trilene big game

So thats a conventional reel and not a baitcaster. Its a bit different but its similar to a round baitcaster. U mainly use that for trolling off a boat, u can use it to cast, but it’ll be a even steeper learning curve than an actual baitcaster.

(Not an expert) That looks more like a drop reel (maybe wrong term) than a baitcaster. It’s used to fish the bottom (or elsewise just drop bait down into the water column), usually out in the ocean. They’re not really meant for casting iirc

What were you trying to cast? That’ll serve you best chucking heavy lead with cut bait, or trolling.

is your yard half a mile out of jupiter inlet; cuz thats what that reel is designed for

it’s not made to cast. it’s a conventional reel not a baitcaster. it doesn’t have breaks to slow the spool so bird nests will happen if you don’t thumb it.

Put a weight on it, about the same weight size or lure you will be using while fishing. Tighten your tension knob, if it has magnetic brakes set it to the middle, then release the bail as your going to cast and begin to slowly loosen the tension knob, you want the weight to gradually fall and hit the ground without it bird nesting. And also practice thumbing the reel as the weight hits the ground/water when you cast, get that down and you should rarely get birds nest. Every time you switch weight size or lures you have to adjust the tension knob or magnetic brakes if it has that option.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll probably return and exchange it for a spinning combo
