I’ve had him a month in a 13”x13” cube. He was by himself the whole time. I really wanted something that can help clean up the tank and was advised by the pet store it should be ok to put him in there with him. I’m so sad.

It’s silly to expect him to turn down the shrimp dinner you gave him.

It’s like dog to squirrel. But some people do have success with keeping them together. Either the betta tolerates them, or the betta couldn’t catch up to them due to their long fancy tail.

They do that. Shrimp fit conveniently in their mouths and are very tasty. If you want shrimp get full-grown Amanos, they’re a bit too big for a Betta snack

Sorry about your shrimp. Bettas sometimes leave shrimp alone but no guarantees, and they do like shrimp.

  5. I made a similar post a few days ago. I bought ten shrimps and he ate 7 within the day. I was hoping for peaceful coexistence, expecting predation but not gluttony.

    This might be harsh….
I’m going to rent space to a large fin betta- in about a month. Their cost monthly, will be to help keep my exploding shrimp numbers in check.
It’s a Win-Win. He gets excitement in his life (and a tasty meal) and my tank doesn’t become over crowded with shrimpets.

My advice: use shrimp hide-outs, lots of lush plants and dedicated areas for both to live peacefully. Betta needs some little cave or hammock to kick his fins up in, and shrimp need a safety area- that Mr Betta cannot get into.
