As I continue my journey, my 9/5 feels a bit stronger than necessary on most fishing I do in New Jersey and I like my ESN rod for the added length. So I am looking for insight and guidance on a new 10/4. Whats your experience? What rods should I look at? Will be using it mostly for a single and double split shot nymph rig, but also occasionally casting dries and very very few streamers.

I use the lamson purist 2 PC . I barley use my 5wt unless I feel a bit out gunned and or it’s super windy . The rod rules.

What’s your budget? I live in NJ and my Hardy Marksman 10’ 4wt is my go to trout rod. Nymphs, streamers and dries does it all well.

I have the 10’ 4wt orvis Clearwater and I like it. I can cast double split shot rigs with big stonefly lead nymphs just fine out here in Utah. Maybe check out the recon if you have the extra funds.

Honestly id go even lower if I were you, I recently switched to a 10/3 from a 9/5 and it’s been a blast. Every fish is such a good fight

$700 max, yeah, I’d suggest looking at that Zone. You should also consider the Echo Carbon XL and the TFO Blue Ribbon. The Recon is also in your price range, but I wouldn’t recommend it because it’s got a very heavy swing weight.

NJ as well. 10’ 3wt is a blast. The Recon is a great rod and balances well with a Greys Tail reel (same parent company as Hardy for a fraction of the price). You can throw some euro specific fly line on it as well if you want to switch from a mono rig > dry fly leader.
