I am semi-new and getting more into carp and catfishing than I have ever been this summer. I have heard great things about mad katz, but also some not so great things so I wanted to ask if these would be a good buy for carp and catfishing with method feeder rig, carolina rig, etc using 20 lb braid? Are these rods any better than if I just bought an ugly stik catfish rod and slapped a penn pursuit 5000 on it? I really want to be able to catch my first carp this summer so I want a rod and reel combo that works well for that that is around 270 or less, and I also want to be able to go in store and buy it without having to order. Thank you guys for any help you can give me?

It could work but I would say 99% of carp anglers use spinning reals. size of the carp your going after will dictate the strength (test curve) of the rod best suited. I have no idea what options an American tackle shop would have though.
I have three Daiwa “Black Widow” rods, and I use rather inexpensive “Sougailang” bait-runner reels from Amazon. 16 pound mono…. I used nothing but 10 pound for several years. The lakes I fish are largely free of weeds and snags…. Which would indicate a heavier line.
Most seem to like mono for its ability to stretch… Less likely to tear the hook from the fish’s mouth.
Bait runner reels are not a necessity, but they make things easier. Most feeder rigs are self-hooking, so the first indication you have a fish is line rapidly running off the reel (and your bite alarms shrieking if you use them). Otherwise, you have a considerable danger of your rig ending up in the lake.
