Made a friend at work and told him I go fishing on occasion. He tells me he's trying to clear out some of his grandfather's tackle.

I took a look and I know most of his freshwater stuff isn't anything special. Some stuff still in packages is ok to use. The rest is rusted and trashed. But he gave me a plug bag and I know next to nothing about saltwater. I live on the coast and wouldn't mind giving saltwater a go, but I'd hate to ruin good lures that are actually worth something. So I told my buddy I'd actually ask around before I either use or trash the stuff he gave me.

Tl;dr: tell me if these lures are worth anything before I use them/donate them to the ocean, please?

They look perfectly okay, you may want to remove the center hooks just for easier casting with less chance of tangles

Looks like standard striper plugs, the kind of thing you’d find in an old school surf caster’s bag. There are modern equivalents sold today but these should still work as long as they’re structurally sound

  3. It depends on the country you are fishing, as some don’t allow certain numbers of hooks on a single bait or trebles but outside of that: they are fine.
