just spooled my spinning setup with some 10lb braid with 14lb mono backing, and I’m worried it’s too light. I’ve heard 15-20lb is perfect for all around and that’s what this setup is for. any thoughts?

You’ll be just fine

The only reason 15-20 is suggested is for when you are fishing in thick cover and your line is going to be rubbing up against logs and trees. Not because the fish are big!
I’ve caught nice 2-3 pounders on 4lb flouro and it’s held up.

You’ll be fine, I only run 30-40 pound braid because I primarily frog fish in thick Lillys

10 lbs is plenty strong for spinning gear and helps casting distance a good amount. Only reason to beef it up would be fishing rocks, logs, docks, etc. due to friction on the line. Since braid is thinner diameter people tend to beef it up much heavier than needed.

10 lbs probably okay but it does start to fray with friction on cover and other obstacles. I check mine periodically as it unspools so I don’t lost something unexpectedly. If you go heavier like 15-20 lb it’s just as limp and I don’t notice much of a difference except the $2 upcharge

Cast the best, Use it alot. Up the leader if you are worried. I use anything from 10-20lb leaders.

how about getting a second spool, load it with 15-20lb, and keep it in your tackle box?

10 lb flies off the reel.
I’ve never had any issues with it.

10 lb Power Pro is almost indestructible. Hopefully you catch them big enough to warrant bigger line but you should be fine.

I use 15 lb braid with a 6 lb fluoro leader. Keeping line diameter close helps the knots hold

If your drag is set properly and you use the rod properly there shouldn’t be any problems. I have literally caught over 100 black drum over 40 pounds and never used more than 15# test mono.

I like light braid for spinning reels – heavy braid for baitcasters.

Completely fine. I use 5lb on my UL spinning and land hefty fish. I use 8 on my ML and 10 on my M. Lighter line is better for casting distance on spinning. As long as you’re not trying to slice through vegetation you’re completely fine

10 is perfect and I run an 8 pound floral liter you’re good to go for just about anything freshwater

4 lb flouro has landed me 10 lb fish, it’s a bit riskier but if you work the fish right it’s absolutely possible

10lb braid is fine most of the time. I use 10lb on my spinning reels however I also have baitcasters with heavier line that I throw bigger lures into heavier structure with. If you only have one primary rod you use for everything 15-20 might be better if you might want to fish around heavy cover but otherwise you’ll be fine.

I prefer lighter line for casting. 8-15lb braid is what I use on my spinning reels with a 4-8lb flouro leader.
