I just purchased one of these for inshore saltwater fishing in gulf coast FL. I typically wade fish in 2-4 ft max depth of water, and with my spinning reel I will typically throw 1/8-1/4 oz jigheads with soft plastics depending on wind/current.
Now, I know that the Tranx-150 is designed to cast 1/4-1oz comfortably.. but will I run into backlashing issues if I try to cast lighter (3.5-5g with soft plastic attached) ?

You should be okay as long as you are mindful to stop the spoil when the bait hits the water, avoid casting into the wind, and adjust your spool tension as required
