I've had such horrible luck with fish. My entire house has several tanks, 2 55 gallons, 4 5 gallons, 1 10 gallon and a 30. All of which I fed frozen daphina cubes too. The 30 which had a betta sorority in it, all died (sans one girl) within two weeks post feeding. Now one of the other girls is sick from thr 55 gallon (dropsy and I dont know why. Thinking the worms)

My male koi betta is bloated all to hell and it wont come down. Now this betta who was the very first one we've ever gotten. Im terrfied to loose him as he means far too much to me and my mom. I dosed his tank with betta fix. If the dropsy is caused by the worms hes a goner. The dewormer we need isn't sold here and we have to order it. There's no way he'll survive.

The pet store gave me a sample to treat my remaining girl which I knew had worms (from the 30 as they were visible out of her vent). For the love of God if hes pineconing im going to lose my mind.

  1. Yes, he is pineconing. No, dropsy is not caused by worms. It’s caused by problems with internal organs that lead to a buildup of inexpellable fluids within the body, hence swelling and pineconing.
Can you tell me more about this male (his setup, tank parameters, maintenance, etc?)

  2. Bettafix is not gonna help dropsy, dropsy is not a disease itself(see other comment). Hospital tank now, water change, keep it heated and filtered. Make sure he’s easily able to reach surface for oxygen intake, add epsom salt for muscle relaxant. Do not treat in regular tank cuz salt isn’t good for Bettas.

does he have white stringy poo? if yes then he has internal parasites. Treat with appropriate treatments (putting garlic guard with food, seachem focus + metroplex + kanaplex).

If not it could be bacterial infection.

Edit: Indian almond leaves for tannins are nice too (immune system boost, not a cure)

Please don’t use bettafix, it’ll suffocate him due to the tea tree oil in it. Try kennaplex if that doesn’t work keep giving him salt baths. If you have to, daily water changes would be good (10-25%). It most likely came from a bacterial infection, which could’ve easily spread if you use the same vacuum for all your fish tanks
