I have this jointed rat lure which I toss around a few times everytime I fish. I’ve never had a hit. It’s a top water bait with amazing swivelling action because of the joints and tail. Looks so realistic like it’s swimming. Just curious if anybody has ever had success with this lure and what fish it might catch?

  1. I have! Was so relieved to check that off the bucket list and never have to use that lure again.

  2. My buddy has caught largemouth bass with one. He also has a couple bat lures that he’s landed some massive largemouth on. Right place right time I guess

I’ve had friends catch big muskee and large mouth on them but it’s not something I’d ever buy.

Ive caught bass a few times on them. My friend caught a pike and a chain pickerel on one.

  6. Yes I have caught a ton of largemouth on a rat lure ! Work it slow let the tail action work and switch up the retrieval speeds

  7. I love fishing rat lures. I catch tons of bass (large and smallmouth) and pike. At the end of the day, it is just another topwater lure. I have a whole box of mice/rats/muskrats ranging from small ones like the one you are holding (which has awesome action, btw) up to 12” beasts. I’ve caught with all of them.

  8. Hell thats a little guy compared to some of the rats ive thrown. You can absolutely get bit on them

  9. I saw a video of a guy catching a bass with a hunk of 2×4 with hooks. I’m pretty sure they’ll eat anything that moves and some things that don’t.

Yes! But mine was all white about the same size as the one your holding. I have a bigger rat that I haven’t had any luck on yet. Keep throwing it dude big bass will smack it. Happy fishing !

Examining fish stomach contents actually tends to reveal that trout/bass eat a fuckload of rats and mice.

Lures like these can often catch giant fish at night.

    Yes.

That said you’re probably better off with something smaller if you want more hits.

  14. That is a fantastic lure! My brother and I have caught many large bass, northern, and musky with it. For us, best in shallow water close to underwater structure, reeds/cattails,grass, or sticks and trees. Casting paralell along the bank is a great way to retrieve it. Have fun!

  15. I love the top water mouse. I’ve caught many a bass on it. So fun to see it disappear!
