Hi recently got a new betta, when I got him he was very pale but he’s been with me for three weeks now and I’ve noticed red streaks on his fins, I just read online that these might be because of stress so I checked my tank and ammonia is zero but nitrite is showing as 1. I did a water change but that didn’t change the reading, what do I do now? Also he’s totally refusing food, I still haven’t seen him eating, I’ve tried three different types of food but he just ignores them, but he’s been eating a lot of snails but I’m concerned he’s not eating properly
Edit: when I got him, he had one red streak and then he’s gotten the others in the past few days

It is normal! He is gaining colors as he enjoys the environment more 🙂
What are you using to test the water? If test strips, those are notoriously inaccurate, so I’d recommend something like the api master test kit (or any liquid test kit). I’d keep doing water changes until you get nitrites to 0. 1ppm is super dangerous for them.
But in relation to his color, it could be that he is coloring up to his normal colors as he adapts to his new environment. If your nitrites are actually 1ppm that could be the cause of not eating and the coloring. Get those down for sure.
