About to try out surf fishing for the first time at Mexico Beach FL since we'll be driving down from TN staying at a house on the beach there for a week the week after next. For the life of me I can't understand why the combo sizes are so mismatched for what everyone recommends for surf fishing but this Penn Combo I found seems like it might be the best match for the price but wanted to ask what you all thought? I know everyone wants to say to just buy the rod and reel separately to pair them up but this is going to see the beach maybe once a year if it's lucky. I really want to stay cheap as possible without buying utter crap and while still being able to get my bait out where the fish are. Any advice is welcome of course though.

For Mexico beach that is PLENTY of rod and real. You can catch blacktip sharks with that. Put 20 lb braid on it and fish it!
BTW, 3 places to fish: just over the sandbar, on the sandbar, and in the cut between the beach and the sandbar. Fish are not super far out. They are in relatively close. Tight lines.
Before I got more serious with surf fishing I used a 10’ daiwa combo I bought from the pier for $60 and caught plenty of fish with it. That combo will be just fine.
