As a new betta owner, something I quickly learned just four weeks ago is:
– You’ll need to cycle the tank before you put a fish in there.
– go ahead and buy the API fresh water master testing kit. I use the test strips if I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to test. (Some people will get mad at me for that but in my four weeks of experience I they’ve been pretty accurate). 🤷♀️
– look at getting some aquatic plants with big leaves for your fish to rest on. Pet smart has some on sale.
– don’t use the colorful plastic substrate or plastic fake plants because the coloring dissolves over time apparently and affects the water quality.
– it’s better to underfeed than over feed your fish. People typically have one day a week they don’t feed their fish at all.
Good luck.🫡
