Hiked down into Linville Gorge to spread some ashes of my best friend that passed last year. We always loved to fish together. Caught this bute in his honor. Honestly surprised it survived going off Linville Falls during the storm because they haven’t stocked above the falls in two years due to some of a hatchery’s getting destroyed by the storm.

My condolences. I caught one that was the same size almost exactly and looked the same in the Nolichucky two days ago.
Fish are extremely capable of surviving any amount of water that gets thrown their way. In the case of Helene, they would have found slower moving water on the flood plains.
It’s the native fish’s eggs that were already laid when the storm hit that were of concern. Only seems like there was a slight drop in native population.
Nice fish, and a great way to send off a buddy
He lived a stressful life going through hurricane and now time to fry him up 🤣
