He needs more live plants, floating ones, an almond leaf if PH is good. A few plants that will root without a pot or substrate will help, and a floating Zoo Med Betta log. Honestly, he just looks vulnerable in a sparse environment, needs hides he won’t get stuck in, even a fluffy silk aquarium plant they like. Below is the link to the log, you can also find them at local aquarium shops. Game changer, our boys started making bubbles as soon as he got comfortable with his log.

His fins look pretty good actually I would recommend getting a few more plants as well he will thank you! 😉 Also cattappa leaves one or two at a time should be sufficient in a 10 gl. This acts as a antibacterial and releases tannins in the water that Bettas love. Be proud of your beautiful black crowntail!

We have a betta that came home looking like that, but is now turning blue. Fins are much better and the colour is such a surprise.
