Does anyone know what’s up with this trout? It’s head was totally rotted but it was alive and moving in the shallows if my local river

Close up it looks like a bacterial or fungal infection. If so, that fish probably isn’t long for living.
It can happen even if everything else is OK. All it takes sometimes is an unfortunate scratch and the wrong microbe gets past the immune system for long enough to take hold.
