Hey, so… Im planning to buy some water-lettuce plants to be on top of the water. I wanted to know if I can remove the lid to put them in or will my fish simply jump out and die or sum….

  1. I recommend just lowering the water level a tiny bit and adding floating plants, if you want them, but then keep the lid. Bettas are renowned for jumping out and shriveling on the floor even thru the tiniest of crevices

  2. My idea would be putting the plants, and a ring feeder on a static position nowhere close to the edge and let the plants grow before removing the lid

  3. Its generally recommended to use a lid because of the risk, but lots of people still do what they want.

I cant really use a lid on my 10 gall because the light, heater, and filter all prevent me from being able to add one. Personally i would say “if you could you should”

Bettas are bound to jump as a way of hoping to land in a different source of water with more females or food, and i lot of the time i worry for my betta jumping out.

So you technically could remove the lid, but youll put your fish at risk. Im not saying its 100% guaranteed your fish will jump out, but its very likely.

Happy Thanksgiving! And good luck! 🦃🍁🍽
