I can’t tell if it’s rot because there’s not the distinct darkening at the edges and it’s been very slow moving, also new to this! Won a 3 gal tank in a raffle and it’s not his permanent home he’s usually in ten gallons with blue diamond cherry shrimp and more plants, I was worried the shrimp did the initial damage to top fin so I moved him back to the starter tank that had just stayed empty with one or two snail. I regrettably only have strips not a liquid test but it reads 0.5 nitrite 0 nitrate 0 to 0.5 ammonia, 7.5 ph consistently 120 gh in 3 gal 180 in ten, 80 kh in both. 24 degrees C in both, fluval ac20 filter in both but I have a leaf slowing the flow in 3 gal. Thanks for your help I’m really worried about terry. Added almond bark but struggling to get leaves where I am.

Liquid test kit would definitely help get a better idea. Ammonia should pretty much always be at 0.0
This look like normal fin growth but not 100% sure, if so that’s a long length of fin growth. Usually the ends of betta tails will have a lighter more transparent end which is their fins in the early stages of growth. His look very long but healthy from what I can tell. Did he have finrot in the past? Looks almost like his fins were chewed up and are now healing rapidly. A second opinion would definitely be helpful
