This is Dewey, he’s been floating sideways like this for about a week now and I’ve been very worried. I’m not sure if it’s a swim bladder problem or something else, but I can’t afford to go to the vet right now. What is wrong and what can I do to help him?

  1. Hey this happened to ny fish he didnt float but like he just layed below after many months he passed away idk but i think you should have to go incase you dont want it to die mine died from the water problems first of all can you try using water test thingy

  2. It’s definitely swim bladder, do you know your parameters? Can we see a full shot of the tank?

For treatment, the best route that has worked for me is Epsom salt baths for 10-15 minutes. You can try medicines like kanaplex and methylene blue if the Epsom bath itself doesn’t work.

  3. His swim bladder (near the rear) is extremely enflamed. This will cause him to be unable to swim up and down correctly. He is stuck near the top because it is fully bloated. Personally I would start medication (probably kanaplex) immediately. Salt baths are helpful but they are not the same as an antibiotic.

See the following diagram and then look at your fish to see how swollen his swim bladder is (to me it looks pretty bad hence why I’d order meds ASAP):
