My girl got a small white growth that has grown recently. I assumed it was due to overbreeding and since she seemed active and normal I guess I thought it would clear up. Today I turned on her aquarium light and it looked like the growth had opened. Up until today she has seemed mostly normal, maybe a little less active but I assumed that was just age and settling in. Today she has been resting most of the day.
What can I do for her? I feel so bad for her and want her to be comfortable if healing isn’t likely. I realize at this point I should have acted sooner but for myself and my pets I usually wait to see if things heal on their own and they usually do. If it seemed like she was in pain or otherwise unwell I would have checked in sooner though.
I’ve had her for about a year and when I look back at old photos her color was much more vibrant. She has a planted 5.5 gallon tank with stable water conditions. I do have an issue with algae that I can’t seem to get under control, but the tank just looks rough, not totally overgrown. I clean the tank roughly weekly or every 1.5 weeks.
I use api test kit. Tested today and PH is 7.8, ammonia and nitrite 0 and Nitrate around 10.
This is my first aquarium as an adult. I also have a nerite snail in the tank.
She’s a super spunky girl and will jump out of the water for food. We love her a lot.
The first pic is from today, the next two last week so you can see what it looked like before it ruptured. The 4th is around Halloween, you can see how vibrant she was then.
Tank is 78 degrees, she eats fluval bug bites, plus some other betta foods I have bought and mix in. Plants in tank mostly as pictured. Heated with a sponge filter and additional filter inside the tank to keep the water cleaner. I change about 30% water each time using an aquarium vaccum then refilling.

Unfortunately, betta fish are really prone to tumors, but honestly, it kind of looks like an infection of some sort. Is she still eating? If it is confirmed an infection or abscess I would recommend starting off with a low dose of aquarium salt, and maybe some Kanaplex.
She looks bloated/overfed, and those seem like tumors, I hadn’t heard of tumors bursting though. Please answer the automod questions to provide more details about your conditions.
I don’t know exactly what’s going on but it looks like some sort of infection, especially with that white. Could be some tumors. How much do you feed a day? Is she bloated or overfed, her stomach seems pretty big?
I would start with kanaplex since it’s an overall bacterial and infection medication. I heard it could hurt snails though, so I would look into that. Might need a hospital tank or something else to treat her in.
Looks like furunculosis or ulcers. [Heres a guide](https://www.marysmagicbettas.com/common-betta-diseases-treatments/) that shows that and other common illnesses, as well as their treatments. Hope she feels better soon!
