Metanium hg. None of my other shimanos move this much. I believe it is tightened down all the way.

No idea but mine does too. I’m guessing that it’s because if it’s too stiff and brittle it could easily break, and it’s a very important piece to the reel.

yes, you want it to be able to move side to side so when line flies out there is less friction overall.
